How to play "NoWhammies"
or, Proof that a Mac is Really Just a Toy
Some of the denizens of the Kennedy Hall Computer Lab discovered this
mindless adaptation of Apple Macintosh features, somewhere in the middle
of an Excel lab. It is derived from the 80's game show "Press Your
Luck."
- Create a new folder.
- From there, create a bunch of folders
(files if you want, but its easier to just make new folders from the
Finder) with appropriate names, e.g. at least one of $100, $500, Big
Bucks, Trip, Pool Table, Extra Turn, etc., and of course Whammy.
- Arrange them around the place. DON'T use Clean Up By Name, though. If
you want, for added nostalgia put them in a square or rectangular
(along the edge) formation.
- If you want more than one of a certain
choice, e.g. you want two Whammies, the best solution so far is to put
spaces in front of the word. Try also periods, dots, commas, stuff like
that, and in random numbers (ie more than one space etc).
- To start
playing, press and hold down the Tab key. For added effect, keep repeating
the phrase "No whammies no whammies no whammies" etc., as if it were a new
age mantra.
- When you are ready to stop the sequence (you shouldnt get
further than four or five "no whammies"), press (preferably, smack) the
Return key (note, the apple key also works, but it not as aesthetically
effective; the escape key works undesirably and any other key screws up
the game). It is customary at this time to yell "Stop!" simultaneously.
- Admire your fortune and if applicable bask in the glory of your
winnings.
- Repeat as often as desired..
