From the Kult
Compound at ActiveWorlds
|
The Kult Compound was a 3D world building project from 2000-2001 to
support and promote the activities of KULT (www.thekult.org), an online
counterculture organization which closed on September 27, 2001. (For a
brief history of KULT, and the groups that followed its closing, follow
this link.)
The Compound was built by a team of members of The KULT and showcased member artwork, the writings of the group's leader Sean Kennedy, and virtual representations of the group's projects. A spacious courtyard, plush office, large auditorium, and varied meeting spaces were also part of the development. Development on the project stopped in 2001 when the group purchased their own ActiveWorld named Kult City. That project stalled after the closure of KULT and went permanently offline in December 2001 after crashing during an upgrade. An archive of that project's chronicles is available here. The Compound still exists. Plans to convert it to fit the theme of a successor group were stopped and instead the Compound will remain as a museum to the original KULT. - Nomad Romulus, former Kult Compound project manager |
